Italian charms continue to be very popular! The trend began in the mid 1980s in Italy. The Soccer Players of Italy requested a style of bracelet for their team that they could wear at the Soccer Finals that represented them as a team differently from any other at the time. The craze spread so fast that soccer players have been known to wear bracelets that reflected their country's colors. The trend spread to the United States after American tourists became enamored with the style.
An Italian charm starter bracelet from our store consists of 18 blank individual rectangular links. Standardized sizing allows for each piece to be interchangeable with any Italian charm. Unlike traditional charm bracelets that dangle off a chain, the Italian charm bracelet allows for a complete look that can be changed depending on the wearer's mood and/or changing interests. A traditional link of an Italian charm bracelet consists of a rectangular piece of stainless steel that is only 9mm (most Common Size) on which the design is soldered or etched onto the surface.
The Enamel Style Italian Charm is different from the original designs of ReFlorence or Nomination with the raised, detailed 18kt Gold design soldered onto a Stainless Steel Link. As time progressed and the popularity of the Italian Charms grew so did the demand for more themes which produced more style, bolder colors resulting in a greater popularity! With this, Italian charm manufactures began making full color charms using an enamel process. This process is very expensive though so it is reserved for charms that will sell in large quantities. However, many charm wearers wish to have specific charms made that express the uniqueness of the individual wearing the bracelet. Therefore, as the popularity of Italian charms had increased. Manufacturers of the charms had to find quicker and less expensive means of creating charms. In the result of this, the charms were mass produced to accommodate the demand. The quality of the charms were less than desired. They were glued not soldered, thin chip, not 100% stainless steel resulting in a less expensive product which was sold at Flea Markets, Retail Budget Stores and Small Mom & Pop stores Just to name a few.
The higher quality charms took a slump in the demand until consumers realized that these (99 cent ones) did not hold up to any time or wear until now. Consumers like your self have realized that you get what you pay for and the quality of the Italian Charms had taken a huge dive. Now that the popularity has lessened and you cannot find the charms just anywhere the quality and uniqueness that made these charms s very unique are coming back. The quality of the Italian Charm with the thick chip, 18kt gold overlay, UV protection are the prime standard consideration of an educated fancier of Today's Italian Charms.
